Boilerplate

Word OS X, OS X 10.2.8
Word 2000, Windows 2000

I create documents that have a lot of similar text. I would like to
automate the process of creating these documents.

AutoText is too limited for my needs. I was thinking of using a
database to create "reports" that would of course be the documents
that I want, but database programs (filemaker, etc.) that I have
looked at only have rudimentary word processing capabilities.
Therefore, I have started wondering if I should flip around the
proposed solution and try using Word as the "homebase" for my solution
and try using macros or something else to automate the process.

So my question is, does anyone use Word to put a lot of boilerplate
text into documents? And if so, how can I go about learning to
generate documents with boilerplate?

TIA,

Michael
