Bold fonts in styles

Natasha

Hi,

I'm having a problem that whenever I modify the font in a
style to include bold, it changes the font to bold as well
as bolding - which makes the fonts look totally different.
For example, changing a style that is Arial to Bold will
result in a style with Arial Bold font that is bold (and
looks more like Times New Roman than Arial). I can change
this later by highlighting some text in this style
changing the font back to Arial and updating the style,
however this doesn't work with numbered or lettered
bullets because I can't highlight them as such. Also if I
open up a style (to checkout the font) that is correct, it
reverts to Arial Bold when I close it.

Any ideas? This is a real issue as I can't get my bullets
in Arial and Bold, half of them are, half of them aren't,
and they look stupid if they are in the Arial Bold, Bolded!

Cheers, Natasha.

Hi Natasha:

There's a preventative and a cure, at least with Times New
Roman -- let's see if it works with Arial.

When you modify, and you get to the font screen, actively
delete the highlit "Arial" in the upper-left. Then just
choose Bold over to the right, then OK OK Close.

It's a little counter-intuitive, yes, but seems to work.

And the cure: Tools / Options / Compatibility / Font
Substitution

Specify to replace Arial Bold with Arial and click
to "replace permanently" -- it's not really permanent as I
would define it, but should last as long as you follow
that above precaution.

For more on this, look at the microsystems.com
website, "DocXPert" or something like that, referring to
Times New Roman Bold, Bold.
