Bold not working in Word 2000

If I do the Ctrl-B it does not recognize the command and no change. If I
click the B icon on the toolbar it looks like it works, but as soon as I
start typing in the change it immediately reverts back. The only way to bold
is to go into Format and then Font from the top of the document, but again to
get out of bold you have to go to the Format Font. This started in the
middle of working correctly forever. I did have a macro assigned to turn
bold on and off with the F4 key. It will not work either. I have deleted
the Word program and reinstalled it even, but it still does this. I do
question if I am deleting everything as my WORD saved personal files were not
deleted. Any suggestions?
