Bold Print

Using OfficeXP on Windows 2000 with SP5

Every time I open a new word document, the default has the text as Bold.
It is annoying to always click the "B" to remove the bold before beginning a
letter.

Is there anyway to change the default? I'm sure it is easy, but I don't see
it.
Thanks.

Hi,
Sounds like your Normal document template has somehow been set up with
Bold as the standard.

To change this, go to file then open. Then change files of type to
Document Templates. Find your template Normal (if you are doing a
search using explorer its called normal.dot). Generally it is in
Documents & Settings/user/application data/microsoft/templates.

Open the Normal template.

Click on format (top toolbar) and select Styles & Formatting.

On your right the styles in use in your document should appear. Right
Click on Normal and select modify. A box called Modify style should
appear. You should see that the B (bold) button is selected. Click on
it to unselect.

Thats it!

Remember when you quit Word it will ask you if you want to save your
settings to normal.dot. YES you do!

Hope that helps.

An alternative is to just delete the file normal.dot as word will
rebuild it with default values next time you run word. However you may
not want all the defaults.

Cheers,

Mike

This was my first thought too.
However, when searching for Normal.dot, I could not find it.
I assumed that OfficeXP must of done something different with the templates.

Maybe you could zip the normal.dot and send it to me. I could put it in the
location you specified and possibly ... it will work.

Let me know what you think?

Never mind!
I just realized that normal.dot was a hidden file.
Problem solved. Thanks!

Hi,

Glad you solved it. I was just about to tell you how to track it down.
I knew you had to have one.

Anyway, hope all is well now.

Cheers,

Mike
