Bold Text Changes To Black Shapes

We have upgraded to Word 2003 and when changing text to
bold (arial narrow)it vanishes and is replaced with black
shapes/squares/symbols. This is happening on several
workstations, all running Win XP Pro SP1.
We are using templates that were originally created in
Office 97.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Yes we do. This happens randomly. Sometimes rebooting
cures it. Still keeps happening tho'.
