book format

I am working on a cookbook and I am using Word to do this BUT how can
I format the pages so that it can be printed in a book form. For
example, I want to format an 81/2" x 11" page to contain to pages of
my book. Each page would be 5.25" wide x 11" high. Is there a way to
do this in Word? Please help.

Thanks,
Vickie

Format » Document » Margins
Choose mirror margins and specify a massive gutter.
Of course you will have to attack the output with a guillotine before
binding, since the paper is not wide enough to print two columns 5.25"
wide. You may also need to play with the odd and even page print
options if you don't have a duplex printer.

If you really meant 8 1/2" high, then one of CocoaBooklet, or my
favourite ‹ CheapImpostor ‹ is a better route to make a booklet from a
Word doc.

Hello,
I would just add...there are 2 possibilities
If you would like a book layout it depends what you want - if you are
happy with 2 pages printed at the same time to 1paper i.e. 1&2 and
then 3&4 and 5&6 and 7&8... then it is quite OK to make 81/2" x 11"
page in Word and then when printing check in the print driver 2 pages
per sheet. Some printer offers this option some might not. However
this will give you 2 pages per sheet but if you fold it the pages will
not fit into each other as a book.

If you like a book you need to use any SW for imposition such as
Elliott has suggested or my quite handy pdfcity.com. This will get the
proper order of pages on printing sheet so when you fold all your
printing sheets and insert each into each other you will have
something we call V1 binding. This will impose your document where on
the first sheet you will have the first and last page of your
document.

The best way how to understand what I mean is to take 8 pages and
print them on both sides by these 2 ways then fold them and you will
understand.
First way will give you 1&2 and then 3&4 and 5&6 and 7&8
Second way should, if I can remember: 1&8 and 2&7 then 3&6 and 4&5.

Thanks so much for all responses to my question. I took Elliott's
advice and accessed CheapIimpostor, downloaded it and used it to do
what I wanted. It worked GREAT!
