bookmark links in pdfs created by acrobat 8.1 from word 2004

Though I can create a pdf file using the Convert to Adobe .pdf Toolbar
in Word for Mac 2004, the resulting pdf does not have the bookmark and
TOC links in the original Word file. The things I've read online
concern either the PC version or Adobe versions earlier than 8.1.
Some suggest that the Conversion Settings window should pop up
automatically when the toolbar button is pressed, but this does not
happen for me. Does the Adobe Distiller for version 8.0 not carry
this feature for Word 2004 for Mac?

Thanks!

Hello Jeremy,

Unfortunately Adobe has not seen fit to include those features in the Mac
version, bless their smelly cotton socks. It's a pain.

By the way, various problems have been reported with the Adobe PDF toolbars,
although I'm not sure whether they persist in version 8. Take a look at this
article:

I'm told that in version 8, Acrobat honors the setting to NOT put the
toolbars add-ins in each time it starts up. But I've never seen any need
to go beyond Acrobat 6, so I don't know first-hand.

The other side of that same argument on the other side of the Fence is a
Claim that Microsoft doesn't build the required hooks that are in the PC
version, into the Mac Version. Never have and most likely never will.

Makes it sound like that MS does it deliberate, so the Mac users will
get PO'd and jump to the other side where they can get all the desired
features.

Actually I think its about 50/50 but now software company worth its salt
is not going to admit when they need to fix something. And many don't
just due to bullheadedness.

JE,

Acrobat 6 was Adobe's first and worst attempt at Mac compatibility.

Acrobat 8 is the best out so far. and if you go to OSX.5 its sure bet
you'll need it.

I use acrobat all the time for My Association website and much of the
conversion to PDF's is word2004 or Word PC documents.

Thanks, Phillip. I'll keep that in mind.

As it stands, I'm satisfied with 6 for the two or three times a year I
need to fire it up. Using Preview and the native Mac Print to PDF works
for 98% of my needs. Of course, I only generate 20-30 pages of pdf a
week, so my demands aren't very high.

I did download Reader 8 "just in case", but it's never been used.
