Bookmarks/crossreferences

Robin

I am trying to use bookmarks for the first time in a work
in progress.

I make a book mark on a word or name and then reference it
to an index with the page number of the bookmark. However
when I change the page numbers i.e. may be inserting
another page before the bookmark the page number already
referenced does not change. How can I make it so that the
page number referenced always stays up to date.

Also since there are a lot of these bookmarks, where or
how can one view which bookmark refers to which word or
name. I have tried Field codes and hidden scripts but I
cannot find the list of bookmarks.

Hi Robin

Cross references don't update until you update the field.

You can see a list of bookmarks (and go to the selected on) from Insert >
Bookmarks

What do you mean update the field. Even when I change the
pages and then use insert crossreference it puts the old
reference in again. Are you saying there is no way of
automatically updating references other than deleting and
starting again in each case separately. this would be a
big blow.

The list in INSERT BOOKMARKS only give the list of book
marks it does not give the nameof the reference so if you
have a lot of bookmarks great confusion is going to result
if you don't have a separate list. There must be an
underlying list somewhere which the REFERENCE command is
working from.

Thanks Robin Raybould
