Bookmarks in subdocuments

I have a document with several subdocuments. At the beginning and end of
each subdoc are bookmarks to be used for page number cross references,
indicating beginning and ending pages for each document. When I save the
document, the bookmarks at the end of the subdocument are moved to the
beginning of its respective subdocument. How can I stop this?
