Books for beginners

I am completely new to Visual Basic. First, can you purchase Visual basic 6
or does it have to be Visual Basic .NET.

Secondly, can anybody suggest some good books for a beginner.

Since you're new, you might not already know that if you're only interesed
in VBA for MS Office, you don't have to purchase Visual Studio; Office has a
built in VBA editor.
