hi,
i'm using bootcamp to run windows on a macbook pro..

when i stream music videos from the net through windows media player
it plays the audio perfectly but the video appears with only bright
yellow, green and orange colors in it..

it also happens with a few mpeg videos i have..

is it something to do with the drivers? is there anything i can do to
fix it?

all help appreciated, thanks..

Hi Nick:

First place I would look is memory, the second place I would look is
processor availability.

Decoding MPEG4 is quite a tough job for a computer: it needs memory and
horsepower.

If you have less than 2 GB of RAM in the system, or if you have a large
number of programs running in Mac OS, Windows may not be able to get enough
system resource.

Try shutting down everything except Windows and WMP and see if that changes
anything. If it does, you were out of resources. If it doesn't, then it
may indeed be a graphics driver problem.

However, generally, graphics drivers "crash" rather than play distorted
video.

Now there's a thought: If Windows does not recognise your graphics card, it
installs with the lowest colour depth possible. In Windows XP, that's 256
colours, which makes a music video look pretty horrid. In Windows Vista, it
can go down to 4-bit (16 colours) which looks really ugly :)

Check that Windows has correctly identified your graphics card and installed
the correct driver for it.

Cheers
