In Word 2003, I apply borders and shading to groups of paragraphs. If the
paragraphs are all on one page (based on the text arbitrary flow of text in
the document above this point), then I get a single block around the entire
group. This is good.
If the flow of the document causes a new page to start in the middle of
these combined paragraphs, then one of two different things happens. If the
new page starts in the middle of a paragraph, then the box on the first page
has no bottom line and the box on the next page has no top line. It is made
to appear that the box has been broken across the two pages and flows from
one to the next. This, too, is good, and is what I want to see.
If, however, the new page by chance starts at the beginning of a paragraph,
then the box on the first page gets no bottom line (ok by me) but the box on
the second page does get a top line. This is bad for me and not what I
want.
My paragraps are set to have a single space between them. I tried replacing
the paragraph breaks (new paragraph enter keys) by linebreaks (shift+enter).
In this case I do get the page split as I want, with no bottom line on the
first page and with no top line on the second page, regardless of where the
new page starts in the bordered text, because in fact the page is now
splitting in the middle of a paragraph. There is a problem, though. The
blank line (the shift+enter line) will now print even when it is the last
line on a page or the first line on the next page--not what I want. Normal
paragrph separation does not print a blank line at the top of a page.
Is there any kind of conditional line eject--something that will print a
line only if it is not at the top or bottom of a page, but never at the top
or bottom? Is there some other way go get the effect I want (the bordered
and shaded box flowing from page to page without the lines at the point of
flow?
Thanks. Randy Scarborough
