Border around textbox not painted correctly

My father bought a MacBook Pro recently and switched from Powerpoint on
Windows to Powerpoint 2004 on MacOS X (version 10.4.9). Now he complains
about that when he adds a textbox and starts to type something the border
of the textbox is not painted correctly. It's a bit difficult to describe:
While the textbox grows as you type the black border which you can grab
and move with the mouse has some gaps. It's not a black rectangle but a
black rectangle with some white gaps. As you go on typing the textbox
changes and so does the black rectangle. While it's not a serious problem
my father complains about that you have to move another window in front of
Powerpoint all the time to make Powerpoint draw the slide correctly
(another option is to grab and move the textbox yourself). Anyone else
with the same problem? Or even better anyone with an idea how to make
Powerpoint 2004 draw the rectangle smoothly?

Thanks in advance,
Boris

Make sure that your copy of Office is up-to-date. Download and install the
latest Office 2004 updates, which are the Office 2004 11.3.3 & 11.3.4
updates.

In Office 2004, use Microsoft AutoUpdate to get the latest updates. From
any Office application, go to Help > Check for Updates (or manually launch
Microsoft AutoUpdate from the Applications folder). If any updates are
needed, they will display in a sheet, at which point you can check them and
press the "Install" button to download and install them.

Updates can also be found at the Microsoft web site:
<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx#Office2004>

If that doesn't correct the problem, try turning off the ruler (View >
Ruler).
