border on heading row

I format my tables with only horizontal lines, no verticals. The heading row
has a 1 1/2 pt line top and bottom of row. All other rows have a thinner
line.

I have been formatting my table presentation this way for years. I have
noticed that occassionally when the table goes over the page, that the bottom
border on my header sometimes disappears on pages after the first page. I
thought this was just another charming feature of Word (testing that I was
still alert!) and would dutifully go back into the Format-Borders and Shading
and click OK (no need to change anything as in the dialogue box both the top
and bottom border are still intact.) This would alsways fix the problem.

Until now. I cannot get the bottom border to display on the heading row on
the second page. I have tried removing all borders, making all horizontals a
thin line and then adding heavier ones to the heading. I have even created a
new table thinking that there may be an underlying problem within the old
table. All to no avail.

Any ideas?

Does this happen on all printers, or if you make the bottom margin larger?

The problem has nothing to do with printing the bottom of pages. It is about
printing the bottom line on the heading row of a table - totally independent
of printers.

Make sure that the border is being correctly treated as a bottom border on
the heading row rather than as a top border on the first row after the
headings. If necessary, select that first row and remove any top border,
then reapply a bottom border to the heading row.
