Bottom border missing when inserting tables

Got computer from sister. Using word and bottom borders
of cells do not appear when tables are inserted. When I
hit enter in a new word processing document after typing
first line cursor moves to various points in page(
sometimes 10 lines... sometimes more)and I cant get it
where I need it to be. It is not a problem with page
setup or formatting.I have carefully checked all of these
things. Uninstalled her version of office. When I
install my office xp word does not show up as a new
program and still has information from version I
uninstalled. Can someone please help me before I go nuts
over her. Thanks a lot

Have you checked Format | Borders and Spacing to make sure that the "Grid"
style is applied to the table? The spacing problem sounds very much as if
you have vertical alignment set to "Justified" rather than "Top" (Layout tab
of Page Setup).

Thanks for the suggestion but that was not the problem. I even went back and
double checked everyhthing.
