Box at the end of paragraph

Just appeared: a square at the end of paragraphs in a table; which cannot be
edited and, less so, deleted. They are visible even when Formatting marks are
off. Not all paragraphs are affected. How can these be removed please?

Thanks but...

No the box looks like character 25A1 and it apears BOTH when the
Tools>Options>Formatting marks>All is on and off. The "box" also appears when
the document is printed.

When Tools>Options>Formatting marks>All is on the end-of-cell marker does
not appear in the cells where the "box" appears.

The character you describe is what Word usually uses for its "I can't print
this" symbol. How it got into your tables I have no idea. Does it replace
any character that used to be there, or did it just spontaneously appear in
addition to the existing text?

It just appeared spontaneously in some cells of some (not all) large tables
in one particular file. I must also state that the file and/or the template
is/are corrupt - the file tends to crush when I paste, restart numbering, and
when I undo a command in one of the tables.
