brick interface

Office 2003's interface is very customizable, so that it fits various needs.
High customization is equivalent to high efficiency and productivity. I
enjoyed working with 2003.
Since I started using Office 2007, I've experienced much lower efficiency,
slower work, and last but not least, a lot of frustration. So, my very
simple question to the Microsoft team is this: What in the world made you
change the efficient and customizable menu of Office 2003, to the STIFF,
CLUMSY, BLOATED, HEAVY, BRICK-LIKE ribbon in Office 2007?
Why not let your customers set up the software according to their own
taste/needs? ESPECIALLY after we are used to doing that?!! Why force that
BRICK RIBBON down your customers' throats, and make them swallow?
Generally, most software developers make their product MORE customizable
with every new release. And that makes perfect sense! But what happened
here????

p.s. Whenever I see the Windows ad that says "Windows: Life without walls",
I say to myself :
"yea right , then why are Vista and Office 2007 such BRICKS?" (get the
sarcasm...?)

The developers of the Ribbon had their reasons and their reasons are posted
on the web. What I really like is that many of the commands that could be
activated from menus can't be found on the ribbon and you now have to search
deep within to find the commands. Many don't like it but many more
apparently do (I'm not one of the ones that like it as I even run Vista in
Classic mode. I don't want the "pretty" that slows down the system, I want
a quick functioning computer.) Microsoft isn't going to change back to the
original menus so you will either have to use an older version of Office,
use a 3rd party add-on to give some menu control back to Office 2007, or
learn to use the ribbon.

Tried several 3rd party Ribbon plugins but all they do is just add another
tab with a "cemented" menu, which they call "classic". Those guys are
missing the whole point of the "classic" 2003 menu, which was CUSTOMIZABLE.
I never used the default original menu in 2003, but modified it according to
my needs. So those are useless.

LVTravel, I honestly don't give two shi ts about Microsoft's "reasons"
behind the ribbon. The main point is this - I AM THE CUSTOMER AND I HATE THE
PRODUCT. Unfortunately, I have no choice but to use their product simply
because many people are. And if I want my digital stuff to be fully
compatible and up to date, I have to get 2007 version, because they have a
new file format.

I understand that some people like it, and others don't. WELL MY WHOLE
POINT IS THAT IF THEY MADE IT CUSTOMIZABLE, THEN EVERYONE WOULD LIKE IT!
Only an idiot would not understand this concept.

Plus, 2003 worked JUST FINE! They tried to improve something that WAS
WORKING, and in their attempt they made it worse. It just doesn't make any
sense.

btw, all this applies to Win Vista too.

Well if that is the way you respond to a NON-MICROSOFT person who is
attempting to explain something to you, you too can go screw yourself.

PLONK!

100% agree. After our company turned to Vista office it became an absolute
pain for everyone. I wonder why they needed to change the way it worked
since Windows 3.1 time? I feel like a dummy when I am trying to find a basic
staff in ribbons.

Also Vista office documents are not compatible with the previous one which
is also a head-ake when you deal with "old fashioned" users.
