I don't use the built-in program. I use a regular graphics editor for stuff
like that.

I used PhotoEd for many years and I regret very much that it has now gone. I
am not a professional artist or designer and I do not need a powerful, fully
furnished proprietary graphics application. Nor do I have the time or
inclination to undertake a formal course of study to learn how to use one.
PhotoEd was ideal - simple and intuitive to use, with all the basic image
editing functions that I needed. I cannot understand why Microsoft would
remove such a useful and well-designed application from Office without an
equivalent or similar replacement.

I too wish for the 'lost' features to be returned.
I am used to using them on a school computer, but am now retired with a new
computer.

I am not getting anywhere with so-called 'support'!

Anyone else managed to obtain the old version of Photo editor?

J

Jolly

I have discovered that I have a very old version of Office 97 which says it
has Photo editor.
How do I use this without installing the complete old version on my new
system?

Will I just be able to install some elements?

Thanks for any help.

O

Opinicus

I have been to that site, but my new computer came with Office Sm Bus
2003 -
don't think it has it does it?

No. Which is one of the reasons why I didn't "upgrade" from Office XP to
2003. If you can track down an Office XP CD you can follow the instructions
given in KB 817095.

J

Jolly

OK - tried to follow instructions on that link, but - Office 97 didn't seem
to have the 'expand office tools' option.
Any further advice?

I don't THINK I'm being thick!!!

The reason I cannot use the XP CD to install the MS Photo Editor on a new
computer that has Office 2003, is because my new computer has XP Pro already
installed, and the error message says "incompatible."

So, is there another answer?

Also, where is the graphics editor in Office 2003?

Thanks for your help,

stevemalee

Photo Editor was a very simple to use program that did many simple things
with images, including creating new images. The first reaction to being told

"For a broad range of editing options when working with pictures, the best
approach is to work with a photo editing program, such as Microsoft Digital
Image Pro. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/HP011454871033.aspxâ€

is to feel Microsoft has split the program off Office in order to make more
money selling another program. Not everyone needs a full scale image editor.

I am a fairly heavy user of the wonderful and very powerful Adobe Photoshop
but still find MS Photo Editor uniquely useful for very quick and simple
editing jobs such as cropping, saving images from the clipboard, making a
background transparent etc. While the Picture EDitor has its uses, itewas not
a replacement - why get rid of such a fantastic little utility? Does it do
any harm to include those few kb on a massive Vista or Office 2007
installation?

BTW you can download and rapidly install Photo Editor fro free from

http://www.megaiq.com/downloads/microphotoed.exe

it works with Vista too
