Just upgraded to Office 2003, and surprise... no shortcut bar. After reading
all the posts/blogs/comments/summaries/suggestions... here are my thoughts.
You could add all the shortcuts to the quick launch toolbar.. but isn't it
already small enough? A typical employee will usually have multiple programs
opened at the same time which may include: email, word, excel, some ERP or
POS app, and a few browser windows, so now I have to fill it up with some
more ICONS?? Great!
So another alternative is to create a new toolbar and dock it somewhere with
an auto-hide.. this seems plausible until you try to minimize or close out a
window without the toolbar getting in the way. Yet another alternative,
install the OSB from Office XP.. yeah it worked after some fiddling..but
Office 2007 is short coming.. so will it still work?
To sum it all up, if you don't like it, uncheck the little box to not
install it, but overall the functionality and the placement of the shortcut
bar far beats the alternatives.
