Bringing in date from another project

G

Greggy

Hi all,

I figured outt how to make an external predecessor, so I can change a date
in my master project file, and my sub project file then changes it's dates
automatically (from an end date building backwards). It's working really
well.

now, when I make a change in the master file, I would now like to view a
task and it's date in the master file, without using predessors . When I
change the end date, the sub projects initiate date changes ... I would just
like to view the initiate date in the master project as well ... So when we
are in the master file and we are moving around dates , I would like to see
how the project initiate dates looks based on the our changes to the end
date.

Hopefully I have explained this enough. Any ideas?

Thanks much,
Greg

Greg,
Boy, my head is spinning. I'm having trouble understanding the first
"sentence" of your second paragraph. Obviously subtasks can be viewed in
a master - that's why a master is created. But if tasks in a subproject
are not linked in any way to tasks that exist in the master itself, then
there is no interaction.

Now, what is it you want to do again?

ok ... let me try that again. I hope you didn't get a headache. :)

How do I view a task from a sub project, in my main project (without
creating a predecessor relationship).

Greg,
I think we still aren't communicating because all I can give is the
simple answer.

When a master is created, the standard method is to use Insert/Project.
That effectively creates a dynamic master file which if fully
"expanded", will show all tasks in each subproject that was inserted -
no linking is necessary.

Your initial post mentioned "master file". I assumed it was built as
described above.

Hope this helps.
