Broken BCM reports, here's a possible reason why

I installed BCM, the update, created a DB, created/dragged over contacts,
reports working, everything is cool yesterday. Today, I have to open ACT!
to see about importing the data from ACT 6.0 to my BCM db. Kept ACT open all
morning, and when I returned to my BCM, I clicked on a report - says can't
run, try again later. I went to see the Reports where they live ie.,
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Small Business\Business Contact Manager\Reports
and they ALL have the ACT icon and their properties say open with ACT. I
reinstalled as a last resort (changing the property to open with Outlook did
not immediately work) and now I still have ACT icons, but they work and they
open with Outlook. Still not sure why me changing it to Outlook is different
than the reinstall changing it to Outlook, but OK I can live with that. Now
I'm going to open ACT but not Outlook and see what happens. All day on this
mishigash!

This ACT software is a bite! I just looked at my Peachtree default reports
and they all have the ACT icon, too. What a piggy piece of software, breaks
or changes reporting for any tool that uses the .rpt extenstion, looks like
to me.

You can lock down that file extension, if you truly wanted to, with registry
key security settings. :)

I am not a big fan of Act...

Susan,
I get the same message when trying to run reports, however, I don't have
ACT! and never have. An insight into the resolution?

Maybe any software that uses the report extension *.RPT will do this to the
BCM, must be a fault of the BCM, I think this is a common/shared report
extension. I would run a search for that extension, see what programs also
use it, but you will have to reinstall the BCM, and not use with same time as
the other RPT software. I snagged Peachtree and ACT and BCM when I did this.
Now all my dang reports have that ACT icon!
