Broken CD

D

Doug Scheiding

I have two copies of MS Office 2004 with 3 product keys each - 6
users. One of my CDs broke. We had a computer HD crash and now am
trying to resintall one of the codes from the broken CD on the new
HD. When I type in one of the product keys from the broken CD it
keeps telling me to verify the product key. Are the keys attached to
the original CD somehow? Thanks for help.

Office software CDs are not tied to specific serial numbers. Use any of
your similar Office disks to install the software and then enter the
product key.

I suspect you may be entering the Product ID rather than the Product
Key. The key comes with your Office 2004 packaging and once installed
will generate a unique Product ID that you'll find in the "About..."
dialog windows. These are not the same.

Hope this helps! bill

No I am definitely using the Product Keys for sure. The Product ID is
produced when you install the program - kind of a result after
entering the Product Key. Do you have any other thoughts? Thanks for
the help.

It could be one of those rare incidences where the product key is corrupt.

I would also try burning the CD to another disk. I had to do this with
Diskwarrior CD once. If it copies without error, you generally know the
disk is good.
