Browse and login tp PWA site with FireFox or Safari

I was wondering if there is any way (other than virtualization and Remote
Access solutions) to login and browse to a PWA site with using a browser
other than IE.
If we setup our authentication server to authenticate against LDAP, does it
make any difference?
Does the authentication part have anything to do with using different
browsers?
Please advice.

It's not the authentication that's the issue but the Active X controls running
in non-MSFT browsers.
