Is there something I should be typing in html to see
whether or not the viewer has a component installed (they
need virtual tour machine in my case). Is is possible to
have a message pop up telling them they need it? I've
seen it done with sites that need macromedia.

I'm not familiar with Virtual Tour Machine, but if it
appears on the Web page as an ActiveX control, you can
configure a download location as one of the object
parameters. To configure this:

1. Right click the object in Design view.
2. Choose ActiveX Control Properties.
3. Click the Object Tag tab.
4. Under Network Location, fill in the Code Source box
with the URL of the ocx or dll file.
