Browsing folders from Office dialogs is slow

When I try to 'open' or 'save as' a file in any of my Office apps the drop
down list of folders for navigating around my system takes an age to open.
Initially clicking on the 'expand' icon to the right of the display causes
the whole display and icon to disappear before it returns with the drop down
list about 15-20 secs later. This becomes very frustrating when you know
exactly where you want to be but every click of the folder list causes this
longish delay.

Windows explorer does not have the same delay - I can move quickly around
the directory tree from there. It is only when trying to do the same thing
from within Office that the slowdown occurs. I have tried it with the
indexing service both on and off and this does not seem to make any
difference.

Any thoughts would be gratefully received,

If you have disconnected network drives, either connect them or unmap them.
