Buffer overrun in Word 2003 and Word XP

Hi there,

When I try to open some documents in Word 2003 (SP2) and Word XP (SP3) (both
dutch versions) I get the following error message:

---------------------------
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
---------------------------
Buffer overrun detected!

Program: D:\MSOFFICE\OFFICE11\WINWORD.EXE

A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's
internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must
now be terminated.

Then Word terminates.
I have applied all available updates to both versions.

There is a workaround I have found on the net: Disable Spelling and Grammar
check and also disable Infolabels (under Autocorrection options). In that
case the documents can be opened and edited. Ofcours this is not very
convenient, since the spelling and grammar checks do not work.

I have tried all available "solutions" but none of them work.

Who can help?

Hi,

No real help. Similar phenomenon. Unchecking the box "check spelling as
you type" does the trick for a few computers over here. Env. is MSO 2003
with SP3 on WINX/sp2 . problems seems to have started after installation
of the SP3 for Office 2003 and/or the February MS patches, which did
include a WORD and an Office issue, amongst all others...

Solution ? anyone ?....
