Bug found in SP2

B

Bernard

I couldn't find this in the postings, but for all the MVP's out there and the
Microsoft team, I seem to get a crash to happen whenever I hit the keys "ctrl
+ 8" (the left-hand ctrl key and the eight key).
I don't know if this is just a bug on my system, or it is in all of the
versions.
If you want me to post or send you the debug file, I can.

Sounds like you've got some keys mapped for some reason, Bernard. Have you
checked that? I just ran through three machines here, and none crash.

Chris:
How would I be able to figure out what the key-sequence does? Is it in the
registry somewhere, or do I need to go through the command menu?

I'm sorry, but I really don't know. Perhaps one of the other MVPs will drop
in here with the information. Have you tried doing a simple Detect and
Repair of OneNote from the Help menu? Perhaps the keys aren't really
mapped, but something is askew within OneNote which can be fixed. You won't
lose any of your information by doing the repair.

Chris and Benard,

I have the same problem. Chris, you don't because it only happens when a
toolbar is not displayed such that the note flag icon does not appear. So
long as the note flag icon is on a toolbar, any toolbar, the program will not
crash.

Can you provide more information on how to reproduce this?

I just turned off all of the toolbars and could not get ON2003SP2 to
crash when pressing Ctrl-8.

Erik,

OneNote has to be started without rendering any note flag icons, that means
on any visible toolbars or even by clicking Format > Note Flags (which
displays the flags). Close all of your toolbars, close OneNote, reopen
OneNote, and then try to apply a flag with a shortcut key.

I've been trading e-mails with someone at Microsoft about this. It may be
related to the display adapter, and so it may not occur on all systems.
Thanks for checking (it really is frustrating after one has come to rely on
the shortcut keys).

Sunofagun. I hadn't closed and restarted.

Adding that step, I was able to recreate the crash. Good find and thanks
for spending the time to report and work with the dev team on this.
