Bug? Importing Objects into PowerPoint 2004 Mac

I am having problems every time I try to import (as an object) an MS
Word 2004 table with special characters into PowerPoint 2004. When a
special character is in the table, the text comes up as all little
black boxes--EXCEPT the special character which comes out fine. But
when I delete the special character from a table, it imports just
fine.

Has anybody else had this problem? Any advice or solutions?

There has been an update to Office 2004 that may correct this for you.
Try using the Help menu to check for updates. There are two updates to
install.

If you are not offered the updates, you can download them directly from
Microsoft's web site: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/
