Here's another bug (sort of) in Outlook2003w/BCM that, if corrected in the
next version (or if someone has a workaround for now) would make the product
better, more useful, and less time consuming/difficult to use for meaninful
business purposes.
When you send/receive an email with attachments, and manually or
"automatically" link it to a BCM contact, it stores in the contact's history
the email, which of course (if double clicked) displays the email and
attachments (initially). You can even click on them to open them.
The problems arise once you *delete* the email from your in/sent box AND
permanently from your "deleted items" box. Here are problems--It would be
great to get these fixed and/or improved:
---------------------
PROBLEM #1. ATTACHMENT EVAPORATES AND NO RECORD OF FILENAME. First, it
understandably deletes the attachment... big attachments would eventualy
fill up the hard drive. Besides, if you attached it, you probably have it
somewhere else on your PC. *But* for a given email, we at least need a
"record" that there *was* an attachment and *preferably* the filename...
like this...

Subject: March meeting
Attachments: AGENDA.doc 180KB 1/1/05 <-----------
The only way around this it seems is to add a new "Note" next to the email,
and manually type in the name of the attachment you sent. Or manually
attach the whole file in BCM history. Extra work, wasted space.
-------------------
PROBLEM #2. FORMATTING FALLS APART. If you sent the email (or received it)
in html format, as many people do... once it's permanently deleted from
in/sent/deleted box, BCM's *history* retains a version of the email that
suddenly has lots of white rows (spacing) between text...apparently because
history uses plain text, which doesn't deal with the "former" html of the
email. This makes it hard to read, like this:

Hello Joe,
We are all confirmed for the big conference in Miami.
XYZ will roll out the new product on the first day.
