The Note Tag summary feature is much improved over the B2TR version. It's
much faster, and the duplicate entries are gone. However, there is a problem
where all of the entries do not appear. Let's suppose I've created 2 custom
tags, "Group A" and "Group B". It appears that when you start a Tag Summary
from a Page that contains notes with "Group A" tag, then the summary will
find all of the notes that have that same "Group A" Custom Tag. However, some
other notes within the current search scope that have the "Group B" tag may
not be shown. Similarly, if you start the summary from a page containing some
notes with "Group B" tags (but no "Group A" tags), then the summary will show
all "Group B" tagged notes, but none from "Group A". If you start the summary
from a page that contains both "Group A" *and" "Group B", then the summary
will show notes from both groups. So there seems to be some linkage between
what's on the current page and what the summary can find.
In order to work around this problem, I created a bogus page that has one
note flagged with every type of Custom Tag I've created. When I invoke the
summary from that page, then I get the correct result; *all* notes flagged
with any Custom Tag are shown in the summary. OK, that's still consistent
with my observation from above. Now here's the weird part. Once I create this
bogus page, if I go back to one of the pages that only has one type of Custom
Tag (let's say Group A), now the summary shows both A and B flagged notes.
Some things about my install that might have some effect:
1) Upgrade path was 2003 > B2TR > RTM
2) As suggested above, I'm not using just the default Note Tags; I have
several custom Tags
3) If I turn off the "Only show unchecked items" I believe the summary
correctly shows all items.
This is the most productive feature of Onenote for me. Hope it's ironed out
soon...
