In Outlook2003w/BCM, I'm wondering if there's a better way to select
contacts for reports.... Here's what's happening. In BCM, I click Business
Tools > Reports > Contacts > History Report...
The menu that comes up to allow you to select names looks like this:
FULL NAME FILE AS COMPANY
Joe Smith Smith, Joe Duke University
Joseph Greene Greene, Joseph US Dept. of...
Mr. Sam Doe Doe, Sam UNC
The menu and process of selecting name(s) has several problems when you type
in a person's name you want to select:
1) It looks like the ONLY text it keys on is "first name" so you type "Joe"
and get Joe Smith but not Joseph Greene. I'd rather "see" (in first column)
and key on the "last name" so I can just look up "Greene". Any way to do
that?
2) If your Outlook BCM contact has "Mr." in front of the name, it really
trips it up. You'd need to key in "Mr. Sam" to get him, which is awkward...
you'll never see him by typing in just Sam... BCM is confused by the
salutation, even though the "business card" knows how to "not" display the
Mr. in front of Sam's name. (Sure, the workaround is to take all the
"Mr.'s" out... but why provide the field for this at all if it can't really
be used without problems.
3) It looks like you can't rearrange the columns (FULL NAME, FILE AS, etc.).
Is this right? This is a problem because it alpha-sorts on first name...
that's awkward, rarely done in business (or anything else)... most of us
list people by "last name". Any workaround? (Hint... it's not "click the
FILE AS column and then type in a last name... it doesn't work, plus the
sort by last name evaporates after you do this report... falls back to
sorting by first name again)
Thanks,
George
