Bug Report for Smart Art Editing

V

Veleek

Repro steps:
1. Create a document with at least two pages
2. Create a smart art picture (anything should work)
3. And a bunch of text to parts of the diagram
4. Scroll so you can view only part of the smart art
5. Click on one of the visible text boxes in the smart art. It will allow
you to select a text box and move a caret around in it.
6. Modify the text, this will automatically scroll the view so you can see
the entire smart art. Unfortunately the caret does not move and remains at
the same screen position as before, so it is now NOT in the same text box.
Typing or modifying the text any more doesn't fix it. You can fix it by
reselecting the text box, but it's kind of annoying.

Any chance this will get submitted? I know it seems like low sev/pri and
will probably get punted, but I decided to submit it anyway.

Is this Word 2007? The term "smart art" is not familiar to me.

My mistake, I assumed that all the bugs in this forum would be for 2007.

Yes this is a Word 2007 bug. Smart Art is the term used to describe the new
chart/table/shape system. It facilitates easier creation of flow charts,
process diagrams, hierachys(sic) and other stuff like that.

These NGs are for all versions of Word. One way to report Word 2007 issues
is with the Send a Smile/Frown tool if you already have it. It seems to be
no longer available for download.

Hi Ben,

Are you using Office 2007 Beta 2 or Beta2+Technical Refresh Patch update (B2TR)? I tried the steps you provided in B2TR and was
able to modify text in the selected box in step 6. (I used the 'Basic Block list' (first choice in the Smartart gallery for the
chart).

Did you use a new document for this?

If you right click on the frame of the Smartart graphic and check the text wrapping style what is it showing?

Are you on Vista (if so what build #) or on WinXP?

B2TR Bob. Also, I think you misunderstood just slightly. You can still
modify the text, but the carat is out in the middle of nowhere and NOT in
it's appropriate location in the textbox.

Text Wrap Style was Inline, and I'm using WinXP SP2 (and all applicable
updates).

Hi Ben,

Thank you for the additional information. Interesting.
It does reproduce in the B2TR version, but was advised that the issue will be corrected for the release version of MS Office 2007.

Thank you for reporting it.
