When selecting a font color, going to the color wheel, the wheel is all black

When selecting a font color, going to the color wheel, the wheel is all black

Hi,

On the right hand side of the color wheel there's a slider control. Push
it up and you'll be able to control the darkness of the wheel colors.

thanks that does answer it, but why is the defult all black?
