BUGGY: Resolve duplicate Account or Business Contact records
The “official†advice paragraph following these four comments is
insufficient and only applicable under certain circumstances.
Exceptions:
1. Drag or copy/paste a duplicate .pst contact into Account or Contact and
the "update or existing record" dialog box does not appear. Leaving
duplicate contacts (not good).
2. Rename an existing or fictitious Account or Business Contact with just
the same “Account Name†as an existing Account or Business Contact and the
dialog box does not appear.
3. Most users, I assume are going to try like myself to migrate existing
..pst contacts to BCM. Problem: Keeping track of the transfer when BCM does
not recognize a duplicate or modified contact as described above. Historical
..pst contacts in reality need to be sorted by hand one by one due to the
innate Account - Business Contact hierarchy that really does not jive with
BCM or CRM for that matter. This takes time and with thousands of contacts
more that one session. Making any attempt to migrate historical .pst
contacts into BCM at this point seems to me to be waste of time without
better supporting documentation or version fix. New contacts do work as
advertised.
4. Current help on this topic outside this forum is circular with no
realistic solution as applied to scenarios cited above. Reference:

Title: Resolve duplicate Account or Business Contact records in Business
Contact Manager for Outlook
Outlook
BCM: Ver: 2.00.4813.00
Outlook: Ver: 11.8010.6568 SP2
<Official Advice>
"If you save an Account or Business Contact record with the same name or
e-mail address as one that already exists in your Accounts or Business
Contacts folder, Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 with Business Contact Manager
Update displays a dialog box that allows you to either add the new record, or
update the existing record with information from the new Account or Business
Contact record."
