building a newsletter with Word

In building a newslettyer with Word, I have moved some photos from
Iphoto into Word, knowing that I must format them using "Tight" so I
can move them around. However, moving photos around causes other
strange things to move on the page. How can I just move one photo
while not affecting other objects on the page?

Hi ddnewsletter,

To make the various objects not interact as you move them about the page,
you need to either:
(a) anchor each object to the first paragraph on that page; or
(b) format their positioning to not 'move object with text' (see under
Format|Picture|Layout|Advanced|Picture Position)
Both options have their drawbacks. With :
(a) the first paragraph on a page can change if you add more text on a
preceding page; and
(b) you can end up with the objects staying on a page even after the text
they relate to has moved to another page.

Ideally, therefore, you should make sure each object is anchored to an
appropriate paragraph (you can select the anchors and drag them around),
then lock the anchor to that paragraph (again, see under
Format|Picture|Layout|Advanced|Picture Position).

Cheers

Pardon me for horning in, but I've dealt with the same sort of issue. I
have Word 2004 and the Format menu does not contain "Picture". (I've
dragged a .gif onto a blank Word doc and also wrote some silly text to
go with it to simulate an actual environment.)

You may have spoken to soon. Try again with the picture selected.

Select the image & the command appears in the menu - at the very bottom -
and may read differently depending on what type of object you select
(Autoshape, Text Box, etc.). If there's no object selected to be formatted
the command is absent from the menu.

BTW - There's no such thing as "Horning in" here. Everyone is welcome to
participate. It is simply a matter of form & courtesy to not contradict
others when you know not of what you speak :)

Sorry to have mashed your sensibilities. But, I meant to describe what
I encountered. (My mistake to not have initially selected the picture.)
And, nary a "smile" (oops, you've got me doing it too) after the "know
not of what you speak" locution. In short, lighten up.

Eh, as long as it's done nicely..... :) Who could object to a follow-up
question, showing incomprehension?

Anyhow, I just today built my first newsletter with Word. Surprisingly
painless experience, although I had no pictures, only simple text, which I'm
sure made it *much* easier. I ought to have used InDesign or Pages, but I
didn't have the time to learn them.

The whole "edit text for decent justification and to balance out the
columns" thing was actually sorta fun. Like a puzzle.

Dealing with a company in order to print 400 copies, though, not so fun.
