Building sub-bullets one at a time in Power-point 2003

I use ppt 2003 and desire my sub-bullets to appear 1 at a time, even though
they are three levels -- like 1, a, and 1). I clicked Slide Show | Custom
Animation | clicked the group of bullets I want to animate 1 at a time |
clicked Add Effect | Appear | clicked the arrow to the right of the number
that just appeared. On the drop down menu, I clicked effect options | Texta
Animation and changed "Group text" from "by 1st level paragraphs" to "by 2nd
level paragraphs" and clicked OK. Then I notice that the "1"s beside all of
the levels now turn to sequential numbers, and I think I have got it to
work.

Unfortunately, when I click Play at the bottom right of that screen, it
brings up all of the bullets and sub-bullets together.

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong and how to fix this?

Thank you in advance.

Clarification: All 7 items are set to start on "Click", but the appear all
at once, rather than waiting for my click.

Also, I got it to work properly on my "Overview" slide (the first one after
the Title slide. It had 8 items (2 paragraph levels). The title (at the
top) is labeled "0" and is set to "start with previous" rather than "on
click". I do not remember setting this item to do anything.

Help.

Do the points appear before ANY click?

maybe you have a setting which disables on click animations

Possiblities:
Transition set to Auto after?
Slide Show > set up show set to 'show at a kiosk'?
Slide Show > set up show set to 'show without animation'?

If its none of these and you can't find the answer here we do have a problem
solving service but I think we can probably get it solved here.

Hi Bob

Always check your animations in slide show mode (shift + f5) rather than
pressing the 'play' button. When you press play it just plays the animations
in sequence rather than waiting for you to click so it appears as if all the
bullets appear at once.

Post back if you have any other questions but from the way you've described
it I think you've set it up right :)
