Bulk attaching XML schema in Word 2007

Hi --

I've been investigating the xml support in Word 2007 and it seems
pretty useful. I am developing a custom schema based on the TEI
vocabulary. I have about 3,000 documents I want to attach this custom
schema to in Word 2007, so I don't want to manually open each one to
attach the schema. How can I bulk attach a schema to all doc files in
a directory?

VBA or some other programming language?

In which file format are these existing documents saved?

(Note: this is actually an end-user newsgroup. In the future the
Word.Programming or Word.Vba.General newsgroups would be the better
place for this kind of question.)
