Bullet Lists in Word 2007

I am having format problems with bullet and numberd lists in Word 2007. In
particular if one of the lists has multiple levels, when I try to switch
levels, it will change all of the bullets or numbers to the new level. If I
do a Crtl-Z (undo) then the list formats the way it should. This happens all
of the time in Word 2007 and it never did anything like that in the previous
versions.

I have checked with others in our office and we are all having the same
problem. It is very consistant and we can produce it regularly. It does it
whether we are using the default template or one of our custom templates.

I have had similar behaviour with other formating in Word 2007. If I try to
change something it changes my entire document but goes to the way it should
behave if I undo (Ctrl-Z).

Is there a setting some where that will stop this anoying behavior or is the
some know cure for it?

It seems as if the paragraph style applied to text is set to "Automatically
update." However, I'm not sure that changing the numbering level in itself
would trigger an automatic update (at least I didn't see that in my quick
test).

Anyway, turning off "Automatically update" would definitely be worth trying:
Press Ctrl+Alt+S to display the Apply Styles pane; it shows the style
applied to the text at the insertion point. Click Modify. In the Modify
Style dialog box, clear the "Automatically update" option, and click OK.
