bullet problem in 2000, not 2002

I have a client who recieves documents from outside
sources who frequently has a problem making edits,
specifically adding outline lists. The documents are in
track changes mode. In attempting to help him, I noticed
there is a huge difference in the way these documents
behave - I'm using 2002, he's using 2000. I was not having
trouble adding bullets. Using 2000, trying to add a bullet
(within the numbered list) was doing strange things to
the document. The bullet went to the wrong place, and
changed the text near it to look like 'symbols'. I'm not
sure how to correct this. I tried changing a bunch of
settings, and only when I accepted all the changes first
was I able to get the sections to bullet. We need the file
to stay in track changes mode, however.

I hope I have explained this well enough for someone to
offer a solution !

Hi Lynn,

I'm afraid this was a problem with Word 2000. Your client may
need to consider upgrading... (or going back to a Word 97
installation to work with this document). Before you break
the bad news to him, however, do check whether he's installed
all the Service Packs (SP; I think there were 3 for Office
2000)
