bullet styles going haywire!!!

Hi, I have Office XP Pro and Windows 2000 pro. The
bullets are driving me nuts. I do NOT have automatic
bulleted lists turned on anywhere under autoformat.
Today, creating a bulleted list by pushing the bullets
icon, my whole document got bulleted. I pushed undo, and
they all disappeared. Then I tried to modify the list
bullet style, and now, no matter what I do, all the bullet
styles on my menu show up with no bullets. The only way I
can insert a bullet is in the format menu.

Also, whenver I modify styles or try to customize my own
formatting changes, Word says it has performed repairs on
my documents. I suspect these problems are related. What
can I do??

I HATE MS WORD. Is there something else I can use that is
more predictable???

Make sure that the style you're using isn't set to update automatically (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/WholeDocumentReformatted.htm). Have you
tried resetting all the panes in the list gallery in Format | Bullets and
Numbering? If this doesn't help (or if Reset is disabled), you may need to
delete a key (I think it's List Gallery Presets) in the Registry.
