bulleted and/or numbered lists

[TexasLegend]

for some reason bulleted and numbers lists aren't working properly.
when i tab, word won't format the sub-category letter/number/bullet.
all i get is a line tab with the same number.

example, instead of getting

1) text
A. text
i. text

i get:

1) text
2) text
3) text

any thoughts?
