Bulleting help!

J

Jason

I make a lot of outlines and i'm constantly using word's bulleting option.
Usually I can start the bulleted list by click on the bullet button and then
can enter text. If I hit enter it automatically creates a bullet on the next
line. Normally I can then hit tab to indent the bullet or backspace to go
back a level or two so that the bullet moves left or right. However, I
must've changed a setting because now when I hit backspace instead of moving
the bullet to the left it just deletes it. Any ideas?

I'm using Word 2003.

Thanks,

I've searched the forums and tried this:

From the menu, choose Tools - AutoCorrect Options - AutoFormat as You Type,
enable "Set left- and first-indents with tabs and backspaces".

but it still doesn't solve my problem, this box was checked.

I usually use alt+left arrow to indent to left and alt+right arrow to indent
to right.
As far as I remember, even pre-word 2003, using backspace clears the bullet.

The "Set left- and first-indents with tabs and backspaces" you mentioned
refers to something else.

Melissa,

Thanks for the response. I'm trying alt+left arrow or right arrow but
nothing is happening. Is that supposed to do something?

As of last week I could hit backspace and it would automatically move the
bullet, I can't for the life of me figure out why it isn't working now.

I'm so sorry! It should've been shift+alt+left/right arrow.
And I can't explain why your "backspace" action isn't working now...

shift+alt+left/right arrow bold and italicizes for me, it does not move the
bullets?!

In that case you must have assigned this keyboard shortcut to a character
style that applies bold and italic.
