bullets always staying on the default

Dwayne Roberts

Hi,

I created a custom powerpoint template (.potx) in office 2007. In the master
slide and on the master slide i changed the identation of the levels and the
bullets used. In the masterslide it's looks fine and also on the content
slides underneath.

However any presentation based on that template just doesn't seem to follow
at flow. If i type in text and click on the ' bullets' icon it just places
the default round bullet in front of the text with no indentation. The next
level, which i get by clicking on the 'increase indent level' icon doesn't
indent the text at all. Only by the second level do indents start.

Can anyone help with this? Is there some step I missed?

Kind regards,
Dwayne

Are you typing in a placeholder (where it says "click to add text")? If
you're just typing in a "manual" textbox, then no, the bullets don't follow
the master. What you set up on the master is the placeholder.

So when you start a presentation, the first slide is a title slide layout.
If you insert a new slide, by default you'd get the title and content
layout, which has title and text (content) placeholders ("click here
to..."). Click inside the one with the bullets and start typing. Those
bullets should be formatted like your master.

Yes i'm typing in a placeholder, a text placeholder to be precise. And i'm
also changing it on the master slide and not one of the sub slides. It all
looks well in the master slide view. But when i create a bulleted list with
a new presentation based on that template it just ignores those styles for
some reason.

Does the first level have a bullet? Or is it no-bullet?

Sorry for the late reply.

Doesn't seem to say anything about first level come to think of it. This is
what it looks like.

Click to edit Master text styles
- Second level
- Third level
- Fourth level
- Fifth level

Right. That "click to edit master text styles" is the first level. If it
doesn't have an actual bullet on it, after you hit Enter to go to the next
line, you have to use either the Increase Indent button on the toolbar or
Ribbon or Alt+Shift+Arrow to create the indent for the 2nd level bulleted
text. Otherwise, like if you just hit Tab (as I normally would) to create
the 2nd level indent, you don't get a bullet character.

Also, you'll want to make sure that the layouts all follow the bullets
formatting you set up on the Master slide. Sometimes custom placeholders
don't seem to take on all those settings automatically, for whatever reason.
