bullets not changing

i'm working on a document with bullets and sub-bullets.
when i hit the return, then tab over to make a "sub-
bullet", only my text moves over, the bullet doesn't
change to reflect that the new line is a "sub-bullet" of
the previous line.

does this make sense, and does anyone know how to fix it?

On the AutoFormat As You Type tab of Tools | AutoCorrect Options, check the
box for "Set first- and left-indent with tabs and backspaces."
