Bullets & numbering

after I start a bullet or the numbering feature, pressing enter will
automatically add the next bullet or number in the series. However if I want
to make subbullets or sub numbers I am unable to do so by hitting the tab
button. My assumption is that I should be able to do this, and if so , how do
I rectify the problem? What settings do I have to modify or reset? thanks

In order to do what you've described you must use the outline numbered function

Find the Option that reads something like "Allow tabs to set left
indents in bullets and numbering"

If you reveal the version of Word you're using, someone can tell you
the exact wording and where to find it.
