Bullets that won't go away

P

Peggy Grall

I¹m working on PPT 2008 with a Mac Book Pro Leopard

I¹m having the oddest problem. I created a power point slide show and. on
every slide that I have lists (ideas or points or lines of information) the
program has inserted bullet points beside each point. I¹ve deleted them and
even saved again, closed the program down, and when I bring it back up - the
bullets have reappeared! I¹ve tried deleting over and over and it just won¹t
let the bullets go....

Any ideas, before I have to resort to recreating the entire slide show
again?

Thanks

Peggy

Hi Peggy -

I'm not sure what's going on, but here's how it "should" work :)

Content Placeholders in PPt are pre-defined with Bulleted List formatting,
so that explains where the bullets came from to begin with. If you want to
remove the bulleting there is no need to "delete" anything... Either click
the edge of the placeholder (or click inside it then key Command+A) then
click the Bullets icon on the Formatting Toolbar or on the Formatting
Palette to turn the Bulleted List Formatting off. When you save/close/reopen
the file there should be no bullets anywhere you've done this.

If the bullets are still there when you reopen the file there must be
something that's preventing the changes from being saved. If you make any
other changes are they retained? Is there anything in the title bar that
says "Read Only"? Can you be more specific about how you went about creating
the file as well as any additional details about it?

It would also be helpful to know your exact update level of OS X as well as
Office. Leopard should be @ 10.5.6 & 12.1.5 is current for Office 2008.

Cyber Taz, thanks for your help...I have tried what you suggested and the
problem persists....to answer your questions, all other changes stay when I
save them, I have Office 2008 and Leopard 10.5.6 with all current updates.
I'm working on this today so would really appreciate any ideas you have.

I created the bulleted text in most instances (there are lots of lists
throughout the slide show) by inserting a Text box and then choosing bullets
and putting the list together...

Hope that helps...

Peggy

Cyber Taz - I have already replied with some more information, but as I'm
working on this I'm noticing that when I say 'Save' it saves the lists
without bullets...but when I actually close down PPT and come back to the
file they have reappeared. I tried looking at the master slide to see if
there was anything there...nothing usual that I can see...and looks like
it's inserting bullets in front of just about any text that is a Word Art or
regular text ....stumped!

I'm not sure what to tell you - I haven't been able to force the problem to
occur here no matter what I try.

Run PPt from a different User Account & see if the same thing happens. Also
- just to be safe - run Disk Utility/Repair Disk Permissions.

If there's no change try logging in while holding the Shift key & see if
that makes a difference. If it does it suggests that there is some type of
background process affecting the save.

The only other thing I can think of is a corrupt Preferences file. To check
that, Quit PPt then go to User/Library/Preferences & remove the file named:

com.microsoft.Powerpoint.plist

PPt will create a new one on launch.

Reply with your results on each of the above.
