How do I remove the read only when trying to burn a data cd so someone else
can edit the file

You don't. The 'someone' else simply copies the data file from the disk to
their computer and edits it there.

Not really a Word issue, but...

If it's a CD-R, you can't. All files on CD-R are always read-only. The
"someone else" will have to copy the file from the CD to their hard drive,
right-click the file icon and choose Properties, and uncheck the read-only
box.

If it's a CD-RW, you may be able to make the file read-write, but DON'T try
to edit it in Word directly on the CD -- that's an excellent way to wind up
with a corrupted file that can't be opened again. Always copy to the hard
drive and work on it there.
