Business Card Templates

I downloaded some Avery business card templates. The single file downloads as
a ".doc" file. It adds a new ribbon item called "Avery Template". The page
contains what I think are fields but I can't seem to display them or modify
them. There does not appear to be any macros inside the file although I know
there are since the new buttons on the ribbon don't work unless you enable
macros.

I want to change the template and modify the buttons but I can't figure out
how this document is working.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thank You

With the Avery doc open, did you try to look at the field code by pressing
the keys ALT/F9 (function key)?
And if they loaded any macros, you can run them by the menu
Tools/Macro/Macros...
Or maybe they added a new menu or toolbar button. Did you read the
instructions at the download site?

I figured out that if I enabled the Developer tab in the ribbon, I can see
that there is some VBA code attached in the file. However, the Avery buggers
password protected the code so I cannot see what they did and cannot modify
it. So, I think I'm screwed if I want to use the Avery template as something
to use as a base for my own modifications.

I still don't know how they change the fields given that Alt-F9 doesn't show
any fields...

Thanks,

Pierre

If they sent you a .dot template file, then you may have to File/'Open' the
..dot file itself in word, to see the macro code. Does it actually ask for a
password?

It is a ".doc" file. But if I click on the Developer Tab and then click on
"Visual Basic", I get to the VBA editor. In there, there is a
"AveryWord2007Template" project which is password protected. I'm sure if I
could see that, I could figure out exactly what they are doing but it seems
they want to protect a few lines of basic...

I think I wasn't very clear in my post. I downloaded the following templates
for Office 2007:

http://www.avery.com/us/software/do...redesigned/c_2563_us0_bizcard_10psht_frt.docm

I enable macros when I open this file. All ok. It adds a new ribbon tab
called "Avery Template". I use the "All Cards the Same" button. All is fine.
Their template works fine.

But what I wanted was to change the "All Cards the Same" dialog to rename
fields and move things around on the page. Can't seem to do this since they
apparantly locked the VBA code for this file.

Also, when I view the file, I can't figure out what they are using as
placeholders for each field. If I had an idea, I could simply rewrite some of
the code from scratch.

While I'm on the subject, is there some sample code out there which shows
how Avery achieved this nice extension to Office 2007 ? I mean how they
automatically attach themselves to the Ribbon when the document is opened?

Thanks,

Pierre

This is only a simple card layout. If all you want to do is edit the content
of the cards whilst maintaining the same general format, edit the first cell
then use the macro at http://www.gmayor.com/graphics_on_labels.htm to
transfer the changes to all the other cells. The macros are superfluous.
