Are you using exchange server? If you are then BCM will not work unless your
Exchange server is part of Small Business Server.

Mike, I believe that statement is not accurate.

Hi Finn,

Please don't use all UPPERCASE (thankfully Word has a conversion feature...)

Managed MAPI error means .NET framework is failing to launch something.

This sounds like a .NET Framework error more than anything else.
Start -> Run -> APPWIZ.CPL -> OK (opens Add/Remove programs)
Find the .NET framework entry, click Change and then click repair.

I assume you've rebooted between steps 5 an 6?

Do you also have SBA 2006?

See if the behavior continues once you repair the framwork.

Thanks LeonidSK: Not certain I rebooted, between 5 and 6, but grateful
for diagnosis and will apply Dot Net Framework repair suggestion, and
the reboot suggestion. I do not have SBA 2006, and I do not use
Exchange Server, Mike. (but thanks.) I was using Office '07(Beta) in
May/June/July, and was getting similar frequent MAPI exceptions errors
as mentioned, so I removed Office '07. I had not applied the BCM part
of Office Outlook '07 at that time. My concern about using it now is
with LIMITED FUNCTIONALITY which (according to notice in April or May
'06, when I downloaded the Beta, is to invoke in Feb '07. What is it
going to cost me to overcome that? Thanks again L...F

Leonid:
After repairing the Microsoft . Net 2.0 installation, as you suggested,
then starting Outlook, the BCM Startup Wizard appeared (previously it
had not appeared), and offered options to create a new database, or to
select an existing BCM database.
Neither of these options was successful however; the 'existing
database' wanted to be upgraded, but the backup apparently failed, and
'database migrations' were explictly (error message) unsuccessful, and
I now have BCMDatase0,2,3,4, none of which work.
Still trying, and hoping for further wisdom / mudroct before staroct .

BCM will be a part of Office Small Business Edition 2007.

Pricing is available at
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/FX101754511033.aspx - about
$449/$229 ($229 is the upgrade price from a qualifying product) as of this
date. This is estimated pricing. For authoritative pricing information,
please see http://www.microsoft.com/office

Those errors are not normal and we haven't had any reports about them here
before.

We are getting somewhere and I am sure we'll get there before we reach old
age ;-)

So .NET is fixed, that's very good! Now BCM is probably no longer the
problem, but SQL server is.

You have error log files in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\mssql.1\Logs (or something similar). They are plain text files. I
only care about the most recent and the largest 2 errorlog files. You should
be able to copy and paste those files into this forum. Every time you
restart SQL instance, a new file gets generated.

Thank you,
