Buttons / toolbar non-responsive with multiple docs open

I'm hoping I'm not the only person who has ever experienced this...


When using Word 2003 (also happenned with Word XP/2002) and 2-3+
documents are opened, sometimes, the toolbar and buttons within a
newly opened document become unresponsive.

The only way I can appear to get around this is to switch focus to
another active Word document, switch focus back to the problematic
document, and then the buttons seem to work.

I cannot seem to find a method of replicating this.

Has anyone ever experienced this before, and is there a
fix/workaround?

We have been seeing this for months. Just today we determined how to
replicate the problem.

1) Open a doc in Word 2003.
2) Open a Word doc using IE from a link. The doc will open "inside" of
IE.
3) Close IE (not sure this matters)
4) Switch back to your open instance of Word 2003.
5) Toolbars are unresponsive. Can still modify text in body.
6) One way to reactivate toolbar is to double click Title bar of Word
2003's window.

Anybody else having this problem? Is MS aware of it?
